5. Tripped Thermal Cut-Off Switch

The thermal cutoff switch works as an electromechanical safety device in a water heater system. The device is designed to shut off the power to the water heater when the temperature around the heater and burner rises to unsafe levels.

Step 1: First off, remove the burner chamber door. Then turn off the control knob of the gas valve to the Off position. Wait for five to ten minutes to allow any remaining gas to clear from the tank.
