1. Blank Display Board

If you notice that the display of your Pentair pool heater is blank or not showing any codes or numbers, then there is a problem with the display board. The membrane to the display often loses its functionality and causes your pool heater display to stop working.

Solution:

Open the control panel of the pool heater and check whether the membrane is working properly or not. Your Pentair pool heater display won’t work until you replace the membrane with a new one.

Make sure to turn off the main connection to the heater when replacing the membrane.

2. Blown Controller Fuse

The display of the pool heater is connected to a fuse in the control panel in order to operate properly. This controller fuse often blows up, resulting in the Pentair pool heater display not working.

Solution:

Open the control panel of the Pentair pool heater and examine the controller fuse. Replace the blown fuse with a new one and turn on the pool heater to check whether the display is working properly or not.

3. Water Flow Problem

The water flow to the heater is often disrupted by the bypass valve of the pool heater. If the by-pass valve is turned on, then it will force the water to pass through the by-pass instead of passing through the water heater. As the water will not pass by the heater, the display won’t work.

Solution:

Check the by-pass valve of your Pentair pool heater and make sure that it is turned off. When the valve is turned off, it will force the water to pass through the heater, causing it to heat it.

The display will work and show the temperature reading when the water starts heating up.

4. Faulty Heater Ignitor

A faulty heater ignitor is a common reason behind your Pentair pool heater display not working. If the ignitor doesn’t work when the heater is turned on, it won’t be able to heat up the water.

Solution:

Examine the ignitor and make sure that it is working properly when turned on and heating the water up. Repair or replace the ignitor and turn on the heater again to make sure that the water is heating up and the display is working.

5. Disrupted Heater Connection

Sometimes, the display does not receive the proper connection or signal when the heater is turned on. This causes the Pentair pool heater to not work as the connection gets disrupted.

Solution:

Unplug the heater from the main connection and wait for a few minutes. Plug the pool heater back into the outlet and turn the heater on. Make sure that the display is working properly and showing the right temperature.

  1. heater display is not blank. It does not respond correctly. Heater turns on with pool pump scheduled timer. It turns on the spa. I had turned down the temp so heater would not engage. Now the display will not adjust temp up/down. I can turn it off however, when pump goes back on next day, spa will turn on. Please advise. Thank you.

When the Pentair heater turns on by itself, it refers to the fact of automation issue. This mostly happens when the heater senses the temperature is lower and there is a call for heat. Then the heater automatically turns on.

Also, a faulty thermistor, glitches in the power supply, a bad touchpad, and a malfunctioning control board cause your heater to turn on by itself.

      Solution

      1. You can easily fix this problem by adjusting the automation settings of the heater. For this, you need the owner’s manual to learn how you can do that. Or, you can call in a technician to do that.

      2. If the issue persists from a bad thermistor, you need to replace it.

      3. Also, check the touchpad if it is faulty. Change the defective touchpad.

      4. Access the control board and check it. Replace the board if it has gone bad.

Hopefully, you will get the solution.

      Wish you all the best.
