By the end, you will have a clear idea of how to fix the Pit Boss auger easily. So let’s get into it.

Why Pit Boss Auger Making Noise [Easy Solutions]

The most common reasons behind your pit boss auger not turning or making noise are stuck pellets in the auger, faulty auger bearings, bent auger screws, obstructed auger fan, and rust build-up in the auger. Checkout out the easy solutions to these problems right here:

1. Pellets Stuck In The Auger

While delivering the pellets to the main burner, some pieces can get stuck in the auger. These stuck pieces make it difficult for the auger to function. It can cause your pit boss auger stuck and thus the auger to squeak while moving and won’t turn on. Finally this stuck may shut off your smoker.

Solution:

You can get rid of this pit boss auger jam and irritating noise just by removing the stuck piece. Here’s how to do it:

  • Turn off the whole system
  • Remove the auger motor fan and the auger motor from under the hopper
  • Unscrew the auger
  • Pull out the auger push rod from its place
  • Take a look in the auger system vent to see if there are any pellet pieces stuck
  • Clean the inside and remove everything stuck on the auger rod

Now you can reassemble all the pieces back. After this, your Pit Boss smoker’s auger motor won’t be making any noise and turning smoothly.

2. Faulty Auger Motor Bearings

The Auger motor runs smoothly for its bearings. However, these bearings can fail due to many reasons. Mainly overuse of the auger motor is the cause behind such issues.

Anyway, when the bearing fails, the auger motor makes a clicking noise and it can’t totally run. And as more bearings fail with time, the clicking noise gets intense.

Solution:

Replace the faulty bearings with the following method:

  • Turn off the whole Pit Boss motor
  • Loosen the auger collar set screws
  • Remove the auger motor
  • Unscrew the bolts on the endplate
  • Don’t hesitate to pry off the silicone sealant
  • Remove the auger and clean the spot
  • Reassemble the new bearings in the auger motor
  • Put the auger motor back where it was

This will fix the clicking sound of the auger motor. And in case you are wondering, auger motor bearings are available for less than $50, and pick one.

3. Bent Auger Screws

With time, auger motor screws get bent or twisted. Once it happens, the auger can’t move freely. As a result, it produces screeching noise. This sound gets louder, and it damages the auger system as well. And you will discover your Pit Boss auger is not turning on at all. So it’s better to fix the issue as soon as possible.

Solution:

You can fix this issue very easily just with a solid flat surface. Here’s how:

  • Disassemble the auger rod from its place and pull it out
  • Roll the auger on a flat surface till the bent is fixed
  • Put more force if needed

And within a few minutes, your Pit Boss auger should be smooth and straight again. If this doesn’t solve the issue, then you have to install a new auger. Just disassemble the old auger and put a new one in its place. You can find the best auger for Pit Boss at a reasonable price online.

4. Obstructed Auger Fan

The auger fan helps the auger to function in the system. A strong motor runs this fan. However, if something obstructs the motor, it can make fluttering noises and at once the auger gets stuck. Wire zip-ties, clogged dirt, or something similar can cause this sound.

Solution:

Fixing the auger motor fan is a 2-minute task. You can do it this way:

  • Detach the bottom panel of the hopper
  • Remove the auger motor panel
  • Look for any sign of obstructions
  • Clean the auger motor and everything blocking the auger fans path
  • Put the panels back in their position

Don’t forget to turn off the auger motor before starting this process.

5. Rust Build-up

If you turn on your Pit Boss pellet grill after a long gap, you will be greeted with a screeching noise. The rust build-up in the auger causes this sound and stip the running.

Solution:

There are two ways you can fix it. If the auger has caught too much rust and seems beyond repair, then you must replace it.

The second way is to clean the rust from the rod. Here, you can rub the rust off with sandpaper if it’s not too much rusty. Simply pull out the auger rod, scrub off the rust, and put the auger back in its place. There will be no screeching sound from now on.

Dealing with only these 5 issues will get you rid of Pit Boss auger noises once and for all. As you can see, these processes are so simple that you can do them without a helping hand.

  1. My Pit Boss auger is not turning. The fans are working properly. I’ve clean the tubes, there are not pellets jamming it the auger. The auger is not rusted or bent. I do not hear any hum from the auger motor as I had in the past. The small fan turns for a minute when I initially press PRIME. Afterward it only works when I press and hold PRIME. Confused and seeking help.

Have you clean your pellet grill? If not, clean it throughly & make sure no pellets are stuck in the auger.
If cleaning also doesn’t work, it would be wise to contact the manufacturer’s customers upport center to inspect your grill to fix it.

      Wish you all the best!
