Lasko Heater Keeps Shutting Off [7 Easy Solutions]

This troubleshooting guide contains all the major causes of turning off your heater and their effective solutions. Let’s start the discussion:

Note: You can also read how to fix Lasko heater beeps but doesn’t turn on.

1. Defective Outlet

One of the root causes behind the heater’s shutting off issue is the inadequate power supply or defective outlet.

The Lasko heater requires up to 1500 watts for generating heat efficiently. The power consumption amount varies depending on the heater’s size.

However, when your Lasko heater doesn’t get this sufficient amount of power, it starts shutting off. Defective outlet fails to supply adequate power, and the reasons behind this issue are the following:

  • Tripped circuit breaker
  • Tripping GFCI
  • Worn out or sparking outlet
  • Loose connection between the electrical outlet and heater’s plug

Solution:

Ensure that you tightly plug your Lasko heater into the electrical outlet. The tight connections will ensure the proper power supply to the heater. The other solutions are the following:

  • Contact an electrician to repair and replace the faulty circuit breaker and tripping GFCI
  • Get help from the expert electrician to replace your sparking or worn out electrical outlet

2. Heater Reached To Desired Temperature Setting

When the Lasko heater reaches its desired temperature setting, it automatically shuts off. Likewise, the heater turns off when the room’s temperature goes behind the heater’s set temperature level.

Solution:

Check the heater’s temperature setting. Set the heater’s temperature at the highest level and ensure that the room temperature is less than the heater’s set temperature.

3. Triggered Auto-Safety Features

Following the Lasko heater’s protection features, the heater will automatically shut off when its internal temperatures start rising. The auto-safety shut-off features save your heater from much damage.

However, issues with your heater’s safety features signal you that the safe heat-generating capacity of your heater has been reduced. The main two reasons behind triggering the protection feature are:

  • Overheating
  • Heater’s internal component malfunction

Solution:

Contact an expert technician to detect and fix the auto-safety features-related problems. If your heater overheats, you should reset it.

However, you can prevent this trouble to some extent by following the two ways:

  • Avoid running too many electrical appliances at a time in one outlet.
  • Contact a technician to inspect the heater’s malfunctioning internal components and replace them.

4. Dirty Heater

The Dirty Lasko heater itself is a major cause for which it starts shutting off. The heater’s smooth running hampers because of dirt and debris build-up in it.

In addition, the clog or blockage in the heater’s inside hinders adequate air circulation. As a result, the heater starts overheating and shuts off.

Solution:

Properly clean your Lasko tower fan or heater inside and remove the dirt, debris and clog from it. Ensure the smooth running of the heater by ensuring adequate oxygen supply.

5. Faulty Thermostat

The defective thermostat is another problem that causes the heater’s shut off. The lousy thermostat can’t correctly read the temperature setting.

Its internal gauges create issues in reading the room and preset temperature perfectly. The common causes of the faulty thermostat are the following:

  • Dirt, dust, and lint particles build clog in the thermostat’s inside
  • Blocked sensors
  • Overheating
  • Defective  or aged thermostat
  • Improper installation

Solution:

Thermostat malfunction is a big issue that you should solve as soon as possible. Contact a technician to inspect your heater’s thermostat problems and fix them immediately. The other solutions are the following:

  • Properly clean the thermostat inside and remove the clog
  • Remove the sensor’s blockage
  • Don’t plug too many appliances into one electrical outlet to avoid overheating
  • Repair or replace the faulty and old aged thermostat
  • Install the thermostat in the proper place and away from a highly cool or hot place

6. Dusty Air Filter

Grim accumulation in the air filter is one of the primary reasons for which the Lasko ceramic heater keeps shutting off. The airflow can’t move smoothly within the heater as a filthy air filter blocks the airflow.

As a result, the heat starts to accumulate in the Lasko heater inside, and it forces the heater to shut down.

Air filters become dirty mainly because of improper maintenance. Dirt, debris, or other foreign objects build-up makes the air filter dirty and restricts the airflow.

Solution:

Cleaning the dusty air filter is the only solution to fix it. First, check the heater’s air filter to see whether a lot of dust covers it or not. If the dust covers it, you should properly clean it.

Ensure smooth airflow movements. Follow a regular maintenance routine so that the clog and dirt build-up can’t hamper your heater.

7. Blown Fuse

The Lasko heater contains a thermal fuse that protects the heater from unwanted dangers such as overheating.

However, the melted or blown fuse is a big reason why your Lasko tower heater keeps shutting off. The factors responsible for this crisis are the following:

  • Overvoltage
  • Water leaks
  • Low airflow

Solution:

The heater’s fuse is a tiny device; still, it could cause your heater’s turn off. Contact a professional electrician to inspect the heater’s blown or melted fuse. Also, ask them to fix this issue by repairing or replacing the fuse.

FAQ:

Can a ceramic heater catch fire?

Yes, it can catch fire. The ceramic heater can catch fire due to heater malfunction, overheating, older model or aged heater, running the heater for a long time, etc. However, reaching a high temperature in a few minutes can also cause a fire.

Can I leave a Lasko heater on all night?

No, you can’t leave your Lasko heater running all night. If you leave your heater unattended for a longer time, it could cause a fire catch-out or other danger. Moreover, your nasal passages and skin can damage by running the heater all night.

How do you know if the heater’s thermostat is bad?

Several signs will tell you that your heater’s thermostat is bad. The symptoms are inappropriate reading of room temperature, the continuous shift in temperature, the HVAC system frequently turning on and off, skyrocketing electricity bills, etc.

Is there a fuse in a Lasko heater?

Yes, the Lasko heater has a tiny fuse. The heater can’t function properly without the active fuse. Of course, it’s a small device; still, it prevents the heater’s overpowering.

How do you fix a Lasko heater fan that stops working?

  1. I have two and both of them quit. One is only maybe a year old the other a couple of years old. I called about the new one because it would turn off and not turn back on. I started unplugging it and plugging it back in. Then last night I heard it click like a switch and now even the power red light won’t turn on. Nothing. A few hours later the older one did the same thing. I tried unplugging them but …nothing

  2. If there’s clearly no blockage of any kind, the unit is probably worn out, which means you just toss it and get another heater. However, you have a last ditch effort to force a “reboot” by unplugging your Lasko. Then, while holding the Power switch down (for “on”), plug the fan heater back into the power outlet.
I’ve had success forcing this power up by holding the power button “on” until it runs. Obviously, I inspected my unit and verified there was no physical blockage or other reason to cause it to trip off.
